Wanova Mirage™ Software: What It Is
Wanova Mirage™ reinvents desktop virtualization to help IT organizations centralize management, support and protection of remote and mobile PCs, while optimizing the end users’ experience with native desktop performance, full personalization and support for offline use. Wanova Mirage Software is comprised of three key components:
Mirage Client
The Mirage Client installs into the base OS of the endpoint, with no hypervisor required. Mirage Client creates a local cache of the entire desktop contents – including the operating system - directly on the endpoint hardware. This ensures that there is no underlying unmanaged OS and reduces licensing costs compared to traditional VDI. However, Mirage is hypervisor-friendly, and can also be executed in a type-1 or type-2 hypervisor. The Mirage Client leverages the local compute power of the endpoint, resulting in native performance for the end user.
Mirage Server
The Mirage Server centralizes all desktop images in the datacenter, simplifying management, support and protection for these endpoints. The Mirage Server provides a powerful management console and functionality for controlling image-management, desktop protection, restore and re-image functions, as well as managing the clients and back-end storage. Since Mirage leverages the local compute power of the endpoint, there is no need to invest in heavy server architecture to handle centralized processing.
Distributed Desktop Optimization (DDO)
Wanova’s Distributed Desktop Optimization (DDO) optimizes the transport of data between the server and the client cache, making it feasible to support remote endpoints over the WAN regardless of network speed or bandwidth. DDO incorporates several key technologies including Desktop Streaming over the WAN and Global Data Reduction.
