Wanova Mirage: Why It's Different

Wanova Mirage™ software bridges the gap between centralization and user experience. IT can centrally manage the desktop, simplify support, and protect each endpoint – even over the WAN. End users get native PC performance, can install applications, work offline, and retain personalization.

Optimized for Remote and Mobile Users

Traditional desktop virtualization approaches provide powerful centralization for desktop management, but force significant compromises for end users. Wanova has engineered key technologies that make it possible to manage remote endpoints – regardless of network bandwidth or latency.

  • Global Data Reduction – Mirage dramatically reduces the amount of data sent over the network by deduplicating at the file, block, intra-file and inter-file level. Using a global index across all users, Mirage ensures only changes are uploaded.
  • Full Support for Offline Use – Because end users access their local CVD cache for runtime operations, they can easily disconnect from the network and work offline. There is no need for file check-in/check-out. Any changes made by the user or by the administrator are automatically synchronized each time the user connects to the network.
  • Desktop Streaming over the WAN – When an existing desktop needs to be migrated to new hardware, which can happen during PC refresh cycles or when a user's laptop is lost or broken, Mirage can quickly migrate the full instance of a CVD to any endpoint - even to a device with different hardware. Mirage intelligently identifies and sends first the key elements required for boot, making it possible for a user to be productive in minutes, instead of hours. Once the user is up and running, Mirage streams the remaining data in the background, or on demand.

Single-Image Management with Persistent User Personalization

Traditional patching methods can result in image sprawl, where a golden image exists in the data center, but over time, there is no guarantee that the endpoints are in compliance.

With Wanova Mirage, maintaining compliance with corporate standards can be done for all users with a mouse click. IT administrators can manage, patch and update and consistently enforce a single Base Image of approved applications and operating system while CVD layering makes it possible to enforce this Base Image for each endpoint, without overwriting user’s preferences, applications or data.

Hypervisor-Free and Hypervisor-Friendly

Wanova’s unique Client installs into the endpoint operating system, making the endpoint a cache for the centrally stored CVD. No hypervisor is required, which simplifies endpoint management. There is no underlying unmanaged OS, and no need to pay for two OS licenses.

However, Mirage can also be installed into an operating system on a type-1 or type-2 hypervisor. As an example use case, an administrator may want to upload a CVD into a virtual machine in the data center so an end user who has lost his laptop can access his desktop remotely from any kiosk.
